New Conservation Research Phase

The Team at the Himalayan Carnivore Project is very excited to start a new conservation research project in the Nepalese Himalayas with the support of Fondation Segré. Over the past years, we collected a lot of research data, learned many things through scientific explorations in the area with the local people, and discussed our findings and ideas with many peers. Now we build on the knowledge gathered during the previous researches and return to the Nepalese Himalayas to develop conservation solutions together with the local communities in Humla district of north-western Nepal. Our goal is to help local people to continue their positive coexistence with wildlife while protecting the still pristine natural landscape and their fascinating culture. The pressure is increasing on the ecosystem through habitat encroachment, developmental activities, poaching, illegal wildlife trade, and politics. And the local communities are losing their valuable livestock to wild carnivores. We plan actions around providing better infrastructure to keep livestock safe from predators, support local livelihood options, bring education to young and old people, and most importantly work with the communities to advance conservation by training designated community members to monitor wildlife species, spread anti-poaching awareness, and much more. And we will continue with more exciting research around Himalayan wolf ecology and behaviour!

Also, we are very excited to welcome new team members to the project. More on these young talented people coming soon!

Thank you Fondation Segré for your support and trust!
